Subject: FYI - Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Prince George's County, Sept. 14-16
Good afternoon:
The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), in cooperation with the Prince George’s County Health Department, will expand mosquito control services in multiple areas due to a public health concern over the potential for mosquito-borne diseases.
Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes is planned for the evening of Tuesday, September 14, in parts of Ardwick Park, Landover, Landover Hills, New Carrollton, West Lanham Hills, and Woodlawn. Spraying will occur within a one-mile radius of the following intersections:
- Carrollton Parkway and Lamont Drive
- Decatur Road and 77th Place
- Taylor Street and 71st Avenue
Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes is planned for the evening of Wednesday, September 15, in parts of Capitol Heights, District Heights, Forestville, Glassmanor, Greenbelt, Hillcrest Heights. Spraying will occur within a one-mile radius of the following intersections:
- Lakecrest Drive and Greenbelt Road
- Wheeler Road and Iverson Street
- Walters Lane and Marlboro Pike
Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes is planned for the evening of Thursday, September 16, in parts of Adelphi, Beltsville, College Park, Greenbelt, Riverdale, and University Park. Spraying will occur within a one-mile radius of the following intersections:
- Drexel Street and Rhode Island Avenue
- St. Andrews Place and Metzerott Road
- 53rd Street and Lackawanna Street
Spraying will occur after 7:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, spraying will be rescheduled for the next available evening. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended.
Mosquito Control personnel will use a permethrin-based solution that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, out of an abundance of caution, the department recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need more information.
Thanks,
Cassie
