The Council will meet this Monday evening, February 1, beginning at 7:30 p.m.  The Council meeting will be conducted entirely remotely with no in-person meeting attendance. To attend the virtual meeting, please see the Zoom and other connection information in the left-hand column and below.

Please note: The Council is scheduled to discuss and adopt a resolution Statement on Democracy and Social Justice, an agenda item listed below. This is a matter of public interest in Town. The draft statement can be reviewed by scrolling down from the Agenda available through the Agenda Center on the Town’s website.

Consent Agenda -- There are 2 items on the Consent Agenda. Please consult the Agenda for details:

  • Replace and widen a driveway at 4103 Van Buren Street with permeable pavers.
  • Resize an exterior door, install new windows, and replace a stoop at 4209 Tuckerman. 

Special Utility Permit – For a maintenance project on two WMATA ventilation shafts from February to December 2021.
 
Public Comment
 
Mayor, Council, and Committee Comments and Reports
 
Budget Adjustments – Transfer of funds -- Approval of budget adjustments for fiscal year 2021 as recommended by the Town Treasurer, and to increase the prior-year surplus by $321,270 to agree with the FY2020 Audit.
 
2021 Town Election – To set a May 4 2021 date for General Election in the Town and approve a vote-by-mail election.
 
Zoning Tutorial – Councilmember Martha Wells and Town Attorney Suellen Ferguson will present an overview of the zoning process in University Park and Prince George’s County.
 
Statement on Democracy and Social Justice – Council will discuss and adopt a statement on democracy and social justice in response to the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Public Participation:
Participants who join the video/audio conference will be muted and video turned off during the meeting except for Mayor, Council, and staff. Participants will have the opportunity to speak during Public Comment - agenda item #6. During that time, all participants will be taken off mute. If you would like to comment, please state your name and Mayor Carey will call on you to speak. Public comments will be limited to three minutes.
 
Public comments or questions may also be made by emailing the Town Clerk Andrea Marcavitch at amarcavitch@upmd.org. All electronic comments must be submitted by 12 p.m. on February 1, 2021. All public comments will be provided to the Mayor and Council prior to the Council meeting.
