Neighbors --
Since my September 21 virtual Town Hall to discuss flooding and drainage problems in Town, I have heard from a few of you that you have also experienced a back-up of sanitary sewers into your homes as a result of the September 10 storm, and your resulting difficulties and expense. I discussed this on Tuesday with County Councilmember Dannielle Glaros and asked for her help in getting from WSSC a better response to homeowner requests for installation of backflow prevention devices which could reduce or eliminate this. She has heard of this problem in other communities, asked me for a list of affected homes in University Park, and offered to take the matter up with WSSC.
If your home has experienced a sewage backup related to flooding in the past year, please provide me with your name and address. A short description of any response from WSSC would also be helpful. Please provide this to me via email at mayorcarey@upmd.org by October 30, and I will pass it on to Councilmember Glaros' staff. I need your information in writing, but if you have questions about this, please call my cell phone at (240) 338-2826.
Please share this with neighbors who may not be on the Mayor’s email list. University Park residents wishing to be on this list or removed from it can subscribe or unsubscribe themselves through the Town website's "Notify Me" function at https://www.upmd.org/list.aspx . You may always email me at mayorcarey@upmd.org.
With best regards,
