[ARCHIVED] Town's Infrastructure Project Has Begun

Construction news

The Infrastructure Project’s construction is underway in University Park. On June 25, a concrete crew finished the replacement of the swale across the intersection of Southwark Terrace and is expected to resurface Clagett Road from Partridge Place to Eversfield Drive during the week of June 29. Concrete replacement work will also begin on the 6900 block of Wells Parkway - east of the creek - during the week of June 29.

Phase 1

Construction will resume after the 4th of July holiday with work on the streets that require resurfacing. This work will be done in 3 waves. The first wave consists of all necessary concrete replacement of curb/gutter, handicapped ramps, sidewalks, and driveway aprons. The concrete work on these streets is expected to last through the end of August. Once the concrete work is done, the second wave will begin where the streets will be milled. Overlaying (repaving) is the third wave and will not begin until all of the streets have been milled. The milling and paving should only take 2-3 weeks. The streets which are part of this phase of construction are as follows and the concrete work is expected to proceed in the order listed:

Clagett Road (Partridge Place to Eversfield Drive)

Wells Parkway (6900 block odd-side—Clagett Road to Van Buren Street)

Van Buren Street (Wells Parkway to College Heights Drive)

Woodberry Street (Wells Parkway to Queens Chapel Road)

Wells Parkway (6800 block even-side—6810 to College Heights Drive)

Beechwood Road (Wells Parkway to Underwood Street)

Van Buren Street (College Heights Drive to Queens Chapel Road)

Holly Hill Road (Oakridge Road to Pineway)

The Mews

Phase 2-A (Queens Chapel Road)

It is anticipated concrete work will begin on Queens Chapel Road south of the bridge in October. For all of Queens Chapel Road, particular attention will be paid to improvements of storm-water flow. As with the other streets, all necessary concrete work will be completed first, followed by milling and overlaying (repaving). Construction on the northern half of Queens Chapel Road (the bridge to Baltimore Avenue) is not expected to begin until spring of 2021.

Phase 2-B (College Heights Drive, Clagett-Pineway and the 4200 block of Underwood Street)

Construction on these streets is not anticipated until Summer 2021.
